Excavation

Dirt work done by someone who reads the ground before moving it.

Overview

Excavation

Excavation is the part of a project that everything else sits on. Get the pad wrong and the slab cracks. Get the fall wrong and water finds the foundation. Trench in the wrong place and something expensive gets hit. None of it shows up in photographs, and all of it shows up later.

Southern Solutions runs excavation and dirt work for residential and commercial sites — building pads, driveways, drainage, trenching and general grading — with attention to how water will move across the site once the machines are gone.

Our Approach

How we handle excavation

1

Water is the priority

Every grade is cut with an eye to where the water goes in a hard rain, not just how it looks on a dry day.

2

Utilities located first

Locates get called before the bucket goes in the ground. Every time.

3

Clean, finished grade

Sites are left graded and tidy so the next trade can start without redoing your work.

Questions

Excavation FAQs

Do you call for utility locates before digging?

Always, on every job. Locates are requested and marked before excavation begins — it is non-negotiable, and it protects both your property and the crew.

Can you fix a driveway that washes out every storm?

Usually. Washouts are typically a crown-and-drainage problem rather than a gravel problem. Re-establishing the crown, cutting proper ditching and adding a culvert where needed will hold far better than simply adding more stone.

Do you haul off excess dirt?

Yes. Spoil can be hauled off, or spread and graded on site if there is somewhere sensible for it to go — that is usually the cheaper option, and we will point it out if it is available.

How wet is too wet to work?

Saturated ground turns a clean job into a rutted mess and can compact soil in ways that cause problems later. If conditions are genuinely too wet we will say so and reschedule rather than tear up your property.
