Fencing

Fence built on posts that are set right the first time.

Overview

Fencing

Nearly every fence that fails does so at the post. Set too shallow, backfilled with loose dirt, or sunk in ground that holds water — and within a couple of seasons the line starts to lean, gates drag, and the whole run looks tired regardless of how good the boards were.

Southern Solutions builds fence starting with the holes. Posts go to proper depth, get set correctly, and the line is run true before a single rail or picket goes on.

Our Approach

How we handle fencing

1

Posts done properly

Correct depth, correct concrete, correct spacing. It is the least visible part of the job and the part that determines whether it lasts.

2

Line cleared first

Because we clear land anyway, an overgrown fence line is not a separate contractor and a delay.

3

Gates that keep working

Gate posts are oversized and set deeper, because a sagging gate is the first thing anyone notices.

Questions

Fencing FAQs

How deep do you set posts?

Depth is driven by fence height, soil and frost considerations — a general rule is roughly a third of the post above ground, but we set to what the specific site needs rather than a fixed number, and gate posts always go deeper.

Do you clear the fence line before building?

Yes, and it is often part of the same quote. A line choked with brush and saplings has to be opened up before a straight fence can be run, and we have the equipment for it already.

Can you repair an existing fence instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Leaning sections, rotted posts, broken rails and dragging gates can usually be repaired or partially replaced. If the posts are broadly failing, we will tell you honestly when replacement is the better spend.

Do I need to know where my property line is?

Yes — before we build. If the boundary is uncertain, a survey is worth doing first. A fence in the wrong place is an expensive and unpleasant problem to fix later.
